The Better Buying Purchasing Practices Index survey consists of 50 questions which look at the 7 purchasing practices which we know, from extensive research with suppliers, have the greatest impact on a supplier’s ability to operate sustainably and profitably, provide decent work, and pay fair wages to workers.

The seven categories are: Planning and Forecasting; Cost and Cost Negotiation; Payment and Terms; Design and Development; Sourcing and Order Placement; Management of the Purchasing Process; and Win-Win Sustainable Partnership.

Better Buying’s unique methodology enables suppliers to provide their feedback anonymously, and safely, ensuring their business relationships are protected at all times.

Participating subscriber companies receive a confidential company scorecard and report, highlighting where they are doing well, identifying focus areas for improvement, and enabling them to track their progress, year over year. The report also includes custom recommendations on how to action the data to drive improvements. Subscriber companies are encouraged to share their scorecards and company reports internally, within the company, including with senior leadership, to drive company-wide awareness and alignment on responsible purchasing, and with their suppliers, working as true partners to co-create solutions to shared challenges, and drive mutually beneficial business and sustainability outcomes.

The scorecard and company report can also be used to support compliance with due diligence reporting requirements, and to provide evidence of action, and impact, to senior leadership, investors, and other stakeholders.
