Decarbonization Program

Our Decarbonization Program supports the consumer goods industry to work towards emissions reduction. We focus on collaboration, member support and delivering tools and guidance to make achieving science-based decarbonization targets possible.

Science-Based Targets

As part of the Decarbonization Program, our corporate members will be required to commit and set Science-Based Targets (SBTs), developed by the Science-Based Targets Initiative, from 2023. The Program aims to provide educational and advisory support to members who have not yet committed to SBTs or who are in the process of doing so. Setting SBTs is a crucial step for companies to take in developing a decarbonization strategy and plan to cut emissions.

Manufacturer Climate Action Program

The Manufacturer Climate Action Program (MCAP) is a pivotal initiative that unites manufacturers worldwide to combat climate change. As an integral part of our Decarbonization Program, MCAP welcomes Cascale members and non-members alike, with a primary objective to accelerate the adoption of science-aligned targets for Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

There’s an urgency for us to tackle the current climate crisis, as a collective action coalition which represents half of the apparel, footwear and textile sector we must address environmental and social issues through collaboration and equal partnership on common grounds. We must take more actions where value chain partners should be equally engaged and motivating each other to drive urgent actions to reduce emissions as a shared objective.

Through the Decarbonization Program, we are building important collective action solutions to drive large-scale systematic change required in our global supply chains which no single company can do this alone. Members are listening and learning from each other to address the most pressing and difficult issues we are all facing in different geographical regions, driving shared solutions to shared problems and making sure our targets become a reality. It’s the only way we can ensure our industry has a future.

GIZ PDP Solar Rooftop

We are conducting a pre-feasibility study that will assist facilities with the early stages of rooftop solar project development, such as finding, screening, pre-developing, implementing, and closing the project. Pakistan Environment Trust (PET)

We are eager to collaborate with brands and manufacturer members in order to implement net zero production programs in Pakistan’s textile manufacturing hub. As of now, the PET is working on net zero Pakistan with more than 25 signatory manufacturers who account for more than 40% of Pakistan’s apparel exports.

  • What are the benefits of setting a science-based target?
    It’s good for your organization, for people, and for the planet to reduce your carbon footprint. As a result, your brand reputation increases among your customers. It also gives investors confidence in your processes and durability against the new guidelines, and, finally, you can enjoy financial savings and increased competitiveness, with conscious consumers on the rise.
  • How do the SBTi requirements relate to Cascale’s goal of 45 percent GHG emissions reduction by 2030?
    SBTi provides the best-in-class target setting methodology and guidance to companies to understand the scale of reductions required in line with the latest climate science to keep the temperature increases to 1.5°C compared to preindustrial levels. Setting SBTs enable the achievement of a key collective action objective to support members in meeting the 45 percent GHG emissions reduction goal.
  • What are ‘science-based targets’?
    Developed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a science-based target is described by SBTi as “a clearly defined pathway to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, helping prevent the worst impacts of climate change and future-proofing business growth. ‘Science-based’ targets are those that are in line with what climate science deems necessary to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement - limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre industrial levels.”

    Decarbonization is the process of reducing or removing carbon emissions to help balance out the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the atmosphere. Left unchecked, emissions will keep growing, well off pace to deliver the 45 percent absolute reduction needed by 2030 to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
